South African President who releases Mandela from prison is Dead

FW de Klerk, the former president of South Africa and the last white man to lead the country, has died at the age of 85.
Mr. de Klerk, who was also a key figure in the nation’s transition to democracy, had been diagnosed with cancer this year, a spokesman said.
Mr de Klerk was head of state between September 1989 and May 1994.
He was the man thayt orchestrated the release of Nelson Mandela 1990 which lead to multi-party polls in 1994.
The FW de Klerk Foundation’s spokesperson Dave Steward who confirmed his death, said “The former president died earlier this morning at his home in Fresnaye after his struggle against cancer. He was 85-years-old. He is survived by his wife Elita, two children Susan and Jan, and his grandchildren.”
