Tyson Fury calls Anthony Joshua a “mug”

There’s no love lost between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, with the Gypsy King taking a pop at AJ for comments he made about his heavyweight title fight with Deontay Wilder
Tyson Fury has branded Anthony Joshua a “mug” after AJ said Deontay Wilder “lacked a game plan” in his defeat to the Gypsy King.
Fury, 33, defeated Wilder with an 11th round knockout in their trilogy bout in October to retain his heavyweight title.
Over a month on from the Las Vegas battle, Joshua has given his thoughts on the fight and suggested his fellow countryman’s win was a result of the American’s flaws rather than Fury’s own ability.
In an interview with JD Sports, AJ talked about how Wilder’s lack of a game plan allowed the two-time heavyweight champion to claim the spoils.
Tyson Fury has no sympathy for Anthony Joshua’s loss against Oleksandr Usyk
Joshua said: “He [Wilder] tried, but to get that power and that ferociousness, you have to have it up here [points to his head].
“Before you have it just here [clenches fists] at that level, you have to have it here [points to his head] as well”.
Joshua’s words were then posted on Twitter by boxing news outlet Boxing Scene and picked up upon by the disbelieving Fury.
The Gypsy King, who has 2million followers on the social media handle, quote tweeted the post, and fired back: “Irony of this mug”.
Fury’s words were a clear dig at Joshua following his own defeats to Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk.
The pair have done plenty of verbal sparring in the past, although there have also been moments of cordiality between them.
Speaking after Joshua’s defeat to Usyk, Fury told a press conference: “Did I watch the fight? Yes I did.
“Was I absolutely wounded that he [Usyk] won? Yes I was.
Fury also said he had “no interest in slating anybody or kicking anybody while they are down”, adding: “It ain’t my style.
“I like to pick on someone who is doing well, successful, on top of the game – I don’t like picking on people who are down and probably at their lowest point and probably mentally unstable and unwell with a big loss after such a long reign.”
