FG set to present cost implications of new minimum wage in two days

President Bola Tinubu has instructed Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to provide the financial implications for a new minimum wage within a two-day timeframe.
The directive was given during a meeting with the government negotiation team, headed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed this information during an interview with reporters following the closed-door meeting on Tuesday. President Tinubu convened a meeting with representatives of the Federal Government involved in the minimum wage negotiations with labour/TUC leaders.
Idris mentioned, “The president recently called for a meeting with all those who negotiated on behalf of the federal government, including the secretary to the government of the federation, the minister of finance, the minister of budget planning, the minister of information, the minister of budget and national planning, the minister of labour, and the NNPCL GMD. We all gathered to address various issues, and the president has tasked the minister of finance to crunch the numbers and report back within the next two days. This will ensure that we have the necessary figures ready for negotiations with labour.”
