CDO: Peter Was More Successful Than Paul Okoye

By OLUWADAMILARE DANIELS

A former colleague of Lola Okoye, identified as CDO, has stirred reactions with claims that Peter Okoye played the leading role in building the success, image and brand identity of the defunct music duo, P-Square.

Speaking about the individual strengths of the Okoye brothers, CDO argued that while Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, was particularly gifted vocally, Peter, known as Mr P, brought a broader range of skills that helped define the duo’s identity.

According to him, Peter’s contribution extended beyond music to showmanship, stage presence, choreography, creative direction, organisation and branding.

“Peter has more talent than Paul. The only thing is that Paul’s talent is the singing talent,” CDO said, stressing that Peter understood how to turn musical performances into a compelling entertainment brand.

He argued that P-Square’s success was not driven by their vocal abilities alone, but by their energetic performances, coordinated dance routines, fashion and visual presentation.

“Peter has it, both stage, ideas, execution and branding. The brand P-Square is Peter,” he added.

Why CDO Believes Peter Was More Successful

CDO highlighted several factors which, in his assessment, gave Peter an edge:

  1. Showmanship and stage presence: He credited Peter with possessing the ability to command attention and deliver energetic live performances.
  2. Choreography: According to CDO, Peter was heavily involved in developing the duo’s signature dance routines, which became an important part of their identity.
  3. Creative direction: He claimed Peter contributed significantly to the ideas and concepts behind the group’s performances.
  4. Rehearsals and organisation: CDO alleged that Peter regularly organised extensive rehearsals and pushed the duo to perfect their performances.
  5. Branding: He described Peter as a major force behind the visual identity and overall P-Square brand.
  6. Commercial success after the split: CDO further claimed that Peter performed better financially and commercially as a solo artiste following the brothers’ separation.

“When they broke up, was Peter not more successful? Peter was more successful. Go and check records. Peter made more money than Paul as an individual,” he said.

CDO also compared P-Square’s success with that of another Nigerian group identified as Styl-Plus, arguing that the brothers’ dominance was built largely around their ability to combine music with dance and entertainment.

His comments have since generated debate among fans, with discussions focusing on the respective contributions of Peter and Paul to one of Nigeria’s most successful music duos.
