SENATE FINALLY APPROVES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND MEDICAL SCIENCES, ABEOKUTA (UMMSA)

The Senate has unanimously approved the bill seeking for the establishment of the University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta.
In a press release signed by Segun Orisajo Head, Public Relations of the hospital. The bill after presented for the third reading at the Senate was unanimously passed without dissenting voices. A public hearing on the bill was made in March this year.
With the latest development, the bill had successfully passed it’s major hurdle as it awaits a concurrence by the House of Representatives which often is a mere formality.
The establishment of the University was the vision of the workacholic Egba son, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu while holding sway during his first tenure as the Medical Director of the Centre. He had been vigorous and relentless in the actualization of the objective to ensure Ogunstate and Abeokuta particularly, host a Medical School that befits the State and her people.
A 170 hectares of land was donated by Senator Ibikunle Amosun as the permanent site for the proposed university.
The sponsor of the bill Senator Amosun had repeatedly optimistic about the passage of the bill and eventual establishment of the university by the Federal government.
