Ghana Police Apprehend Fake Army Personnel, Involving Cash, Gold, and Mercury Robbery

Seven individuals were apprehended in Ghana due to a nationwide robbery operation involving cash, gold, and mercury. Among the suspects were individuals impersonating military and police officers during the alleged offences.

The current investigations are focused on identifying further accomplices associated with the criminal syndicate.

The suspects have been connected to robberies occurring in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi. Additionally, some military personnel have been associated with this series of robberies throughout Ghana.

According to information sourced from the Ghana Armed Forces via Facebook, the police reported that victims were deprived of cash, gold, and mercury. The arrests were initiated following a complaint from Mousa Bamba, an Ivorian investor, who claimed he was deceived into going to Dzorwulu under the guise of purchasing six kilograms of gold worth $450,000.

Moreover, a Facebook post indicated that the investigations resulted in the apprehension of suspects Mohammed Umaro, known as Alhaji, and Gabriel Sewornu. These suspects, who were posing as CID operatives and military personnel, reportedly robbed him at gunpoint and subsequently fled the scene.

The investigations have implicated two military personnel, Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko, along with three police officers: Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga. The police officers have since been suspended to facilitate the ongoing investigations.
