How l Survived…
He strongly believes in Nigeria and the entertainment industry where he has spent his resources promotion events despite the dearth of sponsorship. Mr. Akorede Balogun the Chief Executive Officer of BKleff Entertainment speaks on his passion for advocacy and why he believes that his awareness campaign on the PVC Ride prior to the just concluded election was a big success.
Mr. Korede Balogun ventured into a business he knew close to nothing about when he started and he was working with people that needed to be supervised like 75% percent before they could deliver, this was a big challenge for him because engaging the best hands was difficult due to the fact that he could not afford their services.
Worst of it all is when he lost his first set of equipment in a collapsed building hence he had to start all over again, Korode recall how he learnt in a hard way and he is still learning. Just like the popular saying, ‘The day you stop learning, you start dying’.
Recounting his success story so far, Korede said he gives thanks to Allah for all his achievements, so far, About 10 years ago, he lost his first million naira contract. He had pitched for a Road Show worth over a million naira; having done few jobs for the company, his pedigree wasn’t expected to be questioned and the Managing Director of the company had given his word and assured him of getting the job. He waited patiently for a call to pick up his cheque and then a familiar number called on his phone from the organization. He was full of joy and was more than ready to jump on his honda 250VT which happens to be his first super bike but the gentleman said and I quote ‘Good day BKleff please the MD directed that I inform you that the Road Show has been given to another agency but we assure you of other jobs in the nearest future’ and he added you lost the job to XYZ.
It was a very gloomy day for him as he was consoled by many people.
In the proposal he submitted, he had proposed branding his super bike for a year. Inspite of the sad news, since he had already printed the SAV along with facilitating/processing a one- year mobile advert, he decided to present these to the company as gifts as I had lost the deal and they were not useful to him because they were customised for the company.
On Getting to the office, the MD and staff liked the SAV and also were impressed that he was proactive enough to have processed the one – year mobile advert permit. Hence, the MD called the agency and instructed them to work with me. That was how he took part in the job. Till date the company has continued to be very supportive. The MD remains my point of contact to the company. Furthermore the MD of the agency that I lost the deal too outsources some of his jobs to me. One of them was a high-profiled event which was commissioned by the Presidents.
Akorede can be said to be a success story in the just concluded election. He used his machineries and skills he has gathered over the years in the entertainment industry in ensuring the success of his advocacy on the Permanent Voters Card ( PVC ) Ride, an awareness program him and crew took to the grass roots and communities in some States in Nigeria creating the needfull PVC awareness program.
Akorede who hails from Ogun State, he is a Business Administration graduate from Osun State Polytechnic. Ventured into entertainment 10 years ago,
when DJ Secxy his friend painted the beautiful picture of the entertainment industry to him. DJ Secxy wanted him to be a DJ, having noticed the impeccable planning and execution of his events vis-a-vis the large turn out and caliber of guests at the said events; hence he kept encouraging him to plunge headlong into the industry and after a couple of years, Korode gave it a shot, he bought 2 speakers and voila and he set out with BKleff Entertainment, a company that has taken the entertainment industry and shows to another level, providing, lighting stage, road shows, audio -visual
Production, event management, sound/DJ services, kiddies party and lots more.
Korede source of inspiration has to do with his orientation and his ideology. He hates ‘No’ for an answer and no excuse for the non-performance; with such orientation. He works and pray. He is not perfect but strives for perfection in everything he does. He also lives by this principle, that if 8 is the answer from you, the mathematical calculation that gives you must be correct. Answering questions on his challenges,
Speaking on Sponsorship, Korode said it is no go area for him in this part of the world because most companies do not want to start with a ‘beginner’ except big names! All you hear is you should have submitted your proposal long before the inspiration / initiative so I am used to funding my event and doing the little I am capable of but the fact remains one can always do more and do a lot better if one has the backing of a sponsor. The best sponsorship I have enjoyed so far in my event is product support from Rite Foods Limited.
His greatest motivation that keeps him going is, “As long as I make sure I keep My head above the water, great financial success is certain…
Korede who says he has lost count of the jobs done so far, did the
