Lyon and the vibration in Creekhouse

By Oludaniels

Come February 2020 Lyon will be sworn in as Bayelsa State governor and history will have it that Dickson who had boasted that he is the first state governor in the state to serve for two terms, will also chill his spines with the fact that he was also the first governor to lose to a rival party in a state that had produced the president of the entire country on the same PDP platform, a platform that has been governing the state for 20 years.

PDP stakeholders said Dickson would have saved the state from falling into APC enclave if he had heeded the advice of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Gen. Gusau, King Turner and other elders in the country to support the governorship ambition of Timi Alaibe a former MD of the NDDC, instead of Senator Douye Diri, Diri who came into the race 2-week before the PDP

primary, a man who was by no means a match to Timi Alaibe this action saddened Bayelsans.
Most of those who defected to APC were supporters of Timi Alaibe, while Dickson in a bid to take back his pound of flesh refused to support Alaibe because Alaibe refused to support his senatorial ambition in 2006 rather he chose Sen. Heineken Lopobri.

APC won in Bayelsa state not because they acidulously worked for it, but aggrieved Bayelsans revolted against a man that literarily parades himself as God, one who could do and undo and will not be questioned. But Last November 16, Bayelsans brought him down from his high horse and by next February at the gate of Creek haven he will be stripped off his immunity and other nuggets of power that made him boastful, claiming to be the Ofuruma pepe (the great wild shark) of Bayelsa.
Meanwhile, Chief David Lyon (Bayelsa State Governor-elect) had inaugurated a 59-members Transition Council set up by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, urging the committee to scrutinize the accounts of the Governor Dickson’s administration.

According to filler reaching Creekvibes, David Lyon, the transition Council must develop and identify failures of the outgoing administration but also proffer possible solutions to tackle the economic, security, development, infrastructure and the several other areas that often put the machinery of government in the negative.
Lyon also set out a 12 points term of reference for the committee including the close monitoring of the Governor Seriaje Dickson dealings with banks and financial institutions and scrutinise Bills passed into law within the past 4 years.
Chief David Lyon in his speech also noted that though the challenges before the APC and the incoming administration is enormous, ‘No doubt, there are enormous challenges facing us as a people. Some of you here have witnessed these challenges before and may have, in your heart, been thinking of what you would do to address them if given the opportunity.’
“To check the quantum of Public Domestic and External Debt of Government and their deployment, Government’s outstanding contractual obligations and its ability to meet such obligations, status of implementation of capital projects, status of Budget Performance (especially the Current Budget) and status of IGR and Taxes”.
“It is often said that the true test of a man’s character is when you give him power. It has fallen on you, ladies and gentlemen, not just to find and identify failures of the outgoing administration but also proffer possible solutions to tackle the economic, security, development, infrastructure and the several other areas that often put the machinery of government in the negative.”
‘This, we must do to regain the confidence Bayelsa people have reposed in us.It has fallen on us to protect the health of those without wealth and to seek solutions to insecurity, which has continued to threaten our right to life.”
“This is a duty that you must discharge with dignity, determination and distinction for which you are widely admired. I thank you all so much for showing up for this great state assignment. I can’t describe how fulfilled I feel when we connect as one for a greater purpose. I mindfully took this path and to this day I have had no course to regret.” Lyon concluded.
