Alaafin, simply means man of the Palace in the Yoruba language. It is the title of the king of the medieval Oyo empire and present day Oyo town.
Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III is the current traditional ruler of the Oyo empire and rightful heir to the throne of its historic empire.
No doubt the king is allowed to marry as much as his capacity can carry him. He is married to Ayaba Abibat Adeyemi, his senior wife, alongside other twelve junior wives he’s also married to. They are as follows: Ayaba Rahmat Adedayo Adeyemi, Ayaba Mujidat Adeyemi, Ayaba Rukayat Adeyemi, Ayaba Folashade Adeyemi, Ayaba Badirat Ajoke Adeyemi, Ayaba Memunat Omowunmi Adeyemi,Ayaba Omobolanle Adeyemi, Ayaba Moji Adeyemi, Ayaba Anuoluwapo Adeyemi, and Ayaba Damilola Adeyemi.
Recently it was reported that the Alaafin had added a new wife Chioma, to the lists of his wives. It is allege that the new Alaafin of Oyo’s latest wife, Chioma Nwadike-Stanley was allegedly previously married to an Igbo man.
