Popular American rapper Earl Simmons, popularly known as DMX is said to be currently in a hospital in White Plains, New York, in a critical care unit. According to TMZ that a “drug overdose” triggered a heart attack, and the rapper is now in a “vegetative state” on life support.
DMX, who was the cornerstone of the Ruff Ryders label, is reported to have battled substance abuse in the past.
He completed a rehab stay in 2019 following a 12-month sentence for tax evasion.
The rapper then returned to the stage the same year when he performed at Hakkassan in Las Vegas.
During the Vegas show, he took a moment to tell fans, “When you fall down, get back up, everyone here has been through some s**t and you never know what God is willing to do for you until you need him to do something for you.”
The last time he performed was in July 2020 when he faced off with Snoop Dogg in a Verzuz battle.
His career began back in the 1990s, and he released his debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot in 1998.
A year later he dropped his best-selling album … And Then There Was X.
During the 1990s, DMX formed a friendship with rappers Jay Z and Ja Rule, as the trio formed a group known as Murder Inc.
The group was short-lived due to internal issues between DMX and Jay Z after the breakup of Murder Inc.
DMX went on to criticise Ja Rule in interviews, accusing him of being a copycat.
The father of fifteen children was married to Tashera Simmons in 1999 and they were married for eleven years.
DMX has spoken openly about his addiction to crack cocaine previously, which began when he was just 14 years old.
In July 2010, after his first of three incarcerations that year, Tashera announced they would go their separate ways.
