Woman 41, finds dad, thanks £99 DNA test, leaving her crying ‘uncontrollably’

Kelly Pinkney, from Bedford, bought a kit to find out about her ancestry to reveal she was 50% Persian and ended up finding her dad through a first cousin she knew nothing about
Kelly Pinkney bought the kit to learn about her ancestry – and it revealed she had a first cousin she knew nothing about.
Through that link she has now met her dad Saeed Sotoudeh and they are forging a relationship.
Kelly, 41, said: “It’s such an amazing feeling knowing who I am for the first time.
“I feel like I belong now.”
Kelly was born in September 1980 and began asking her about her parentage at the age of 10.
Her mum told her she was conceived one night in a hotel in London and she thought her dad was Arabic or Egyptian.
Kelly turned detective to track down her relatives, which revealed a first cousin before her dad was tracked down
Mum-of-one Kelly, of Bedford, used a saliva test from California-based 23&Me.
It showed she was 50% Persian – now known as Iranian.
And it also told her she had a cousin who was on the site. They were put in touch and that led her to find out about Saeed, who still lived in London.
They recently enjoyed a meal together for his birthday.
Kelly said: “When I found out I cried uncontrollably for an hour.
“It was a massive shock for him as he’s never known I was out there, whereas I knew he was.”
