Gary Speed’s widow, Louise, has found love again with a millionaire property developer and tied the knot last week 10 years after the Wales icon’s passed away at the age of 42.

Louise married partner Quinton Bird at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire last week, having been left heartbroken by the death of Speed back in 2011.

The former Leeds, Everton, Newcastle, Bolton and Sheffield United midfielder took his own life having taken over as manager of the Wales national side the previous year.

Speed married his fiance back in 1996 and they had two children named: Edward and Thomas. Since his death, tributes have been paid by the football community for his contribution to the sport.

Louise recently told the Mail how she was left with unanswered questions following the death of her first husband and explained how she struggled to get out for about two years afterward.

She said: “It was like being in the worst nightmare possible. There were no answers and no Gary walking through the door again. Nothing was ever going to be right again.

“I was trudging through life, just functioning. If I could have been anybody else apart from me, for a long time, I would have happily taken it.

“But we are 10 years on now. It’s a cliche but time is a healer even if it takes years. I have learned that life can be good again, can be great again.”

Speed made his name as a versatile pro early on in his career, and could play in left midfield and central midfield as well as left-back.

Speed once held the record for most appearances of any player in the Premier League until that was overtaken by David James, and remains sixth on the all-time list.

Rarely troubled by injury or suspension, he made a total of 841 appearances at club level, and turned out 85 times for Wales between 1990 and 2004.
