Tributes poured in as Buckingham Palace announced that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II had died. The longest-reigning monarch in British history passed away at her residence in Balmoral, Scotland.
The 96-year-old monarch ascended the throne when Winston Churchill was prime minister and the nation was recovering from World War II.
She is a symbol of stability in the era of sweeping social and political change.
Due to the demise of Queen Elizabeth, the EFL has announced the postponement to Friday’s fixtures between Burnley vs Norwich and Tranmere vs Stockport as a mark of respect for the late Queen.
A decision on the weekend’s games will be made on Friday morning, following discussion with the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.
The EFL paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, highlighting that she presented captain Bobby Moore with the World Cup trophy when England beat Germany at Wembley in 1966.
The Northern Ireland Football League had also announced Friday night’s matches between Cliftonville and Glentoran and Larne and Dungannon have been postponed, and will update on Friday morning about Saturday’s games.
