(Video) Tanzanian fisherman gets president’s attention for saving 20 plane-crash passengers
Flight PW494, operated by Precision Air, reportedly hit the water during storms and heavy rain in Tanzania.
The plane was carrying 39 passengers, including an infant, as well as four crew members, the airline added. It initially said 26 of the 43 people on board were rescued but later said 24 survivors were reported by emergency services at the scene.
A Tanzanian fisherman, identified as Jackson Majaliwa, who was among the first responders at the scene of the plane that crashed into Lake Victoria in Bukoba on Sunday, has been honoured by the Tanzanian government, the President has appointed him to the firefighting and rescue brigade in the East African country.
