Emeka Ike cries out over INEC data leak, Set for Legal Action

Nigerian actor and politician, Emeka Ike, has expressed that he felt “insecure for the first time in his life” after his personal information was disclosed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In footage shared by Central Television on X on Thursday, the aspirant for the Nigeria Democratic Congress in the House of Representatives characterised the event as an abuse of power, emphasising that it raised significant concerns about citizens’ safety and data protection in the nation.

Ike confirmed that he has commenced legal action against Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

“It was shocking. It was so disturbing that I felt unsafe. I felt insecure. For the first time, I’m feeling like, is anybody safe in this country anymore? That kind of feeling, that’s what it was like to me.

He claimed that the incident exemplified what he called political recklessness and an abuse of authority.

“It’s an abuse of power. It’s the extreme to radicalism, political radicalism. It’s essentially conveying to Nigerians that we’re in charge, we know you all, (0:52) we’ll do what we want and we can get away with it. That’s very, very irritating and I feel very disturbed by this,” he added.

The actor stated that his legal representatives had already communicated with the relevant parties, which include Olayinka, INEC, his political party, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the police, to officially record the complaint.

“Clearly, I intend to pursue legal action, and my attorney has already reached out to Lere and INEC. He has also contacted my political party, the DSS, and the police to ensure that there is a formal record of incidents like this occurring in Nigeria,” he remarked.
