Media Honours IPOB Lead Counsel Ejiofor, Spurs Renewed Fight for Justice Most catchy and memorable

By Titus Eleweke

Anambra State born Human Rights Lawyer and lead counsel of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor has described his recognition by Creekvibes Magazine as the crowning laurel of his professional honours for the year, pledging to intensify his advocacy for the oppressed, vulnerable and victims of injustice.

Ejiofor, who received the award of Most Outstanding Human Rights Lawyer of the Year at the annual Creekvibes Magazine Awards held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 in Lagos , said the recognition was particularly meaningful because it came from the media, which he described as an indispensable watchdog of society and a formidable bulwark against injustice, abuse of power and institutional impunity.

The human rights lawyer who holds traditional title of Dunu-Ezeugosinachi.
expressed his appreciation in a statement titled “Monday Musings: The Crowning Laurel of the Year from the Fourth Estate of the Realm,” dated October 26, 2026, in which he reflected on the significance of the honour and the critical role of the media in protecting democracy and promoting accountability.

He said that throughout his legal career, he had held two institutions in the highest esteem: the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the professional body that defines his calling and to which he proudly belongs, and the media, which he described as an essential pillar of democratic governance.

According to him, the media’s responsibility has become increasingly consequential at a time when the institutional foundations of democracy are being tested.

He noted that beyond holding public officeholders accountable, the media plays a vital role in amplifying the voices of the unheard, exposing societal ills and safeguarding the democratic space.

“Without a courageous, independent and responsible media, our democracy would be immeasurably diminished,” he said.

Ejiofor described the award as more than a professional accolade, saying it represented an acknowledgement of his interventions in societal affairs, particularly his efforts to defend the oppressed, challenge injustice, protect fundamental freedoms and speak for people whose rights had been violated.

He said the fact that the recognition came from the media made it especially significant, as it reflected an independent appreciation of the work of human rights advocates and the sacrifices associated with the pursuit of justice, often away from public attention and applause.

“I regard this recognition as the crowning laurel of my professional honours this year, another feather added to our cap,” he said.

The lawyer stressed that the value of any professional calling should not be measured solely by the awards and public recognition it attracts, but also by the lives it touches, the injustices it confronts and the lasting difference it makes in society.

He, however, noted that recognition from an institution as consequential as the media was both humbling and reassuring, particularly for those who remain committed to principled advocacy despite daunting challenges.

According to him, such recognition renews one’s faith in the importance of perseverance and reinforces the conviction that standing up for justice remains worthwhile, regardless of the difficulties involved.

Ejiofor expressed profound appreciation to the management and entire team of Creekvibes Magazine for considering him worthy of the honour, adding that he received it with humility, gratitude and a renewed sense of responsibility.

He said the recognition would strengthen his resolve to do more, speak out more courageously and remain steadfast in defending the oppressed, the vulnerable and those whose voices might otherwise go unheard.

The human rights lawyer further emphasised that the award was not a personal possession to be celebrated in isolation, but a solemn encouragement to sustain the struggle for justice and remain faithful to the ideals that had guided his interventions over the years.

He maintained that human rights advocacy remained an unfinished task, stressing that no individual award could replace society’s collective responsibility to protect human dignity and uphold justice.

“The work of human rights advocacy is never truly finished, and no individual accolade can substitute for the collective responsibility we owe to humanity,” he said.

He added that he would continue to stand on the side of justice, guided by conscience, strengthened by conviction and inspired by the belief that every human life deserves dignity and protection under the law.

Ejiofor attributed his professional milestones and achievements to the grace and faithfulness of God Almighty, whom he described as his ultimate source of strength throughout his journey.

He said every milestone was a testament to God’s goodness and every honour a reminder that the privilege of serving humanity was itself a divine responsibility.

“Whatever good has been accomplished, and whatever milestones we may yet attain, His grace remains the ultimate source of our strength,” he said.

The renowned human rights lawyer gave all glory and honour to God, declaring: “To God alone be all the glory. It can only be God!”
