RIVERS: Fubara exits, Chinda wins unopposed, polling 268,497 votes

Kingsley Chinda, born on 24 March 1966, is a Nigerian politician and a member of the Nigerian National Assembly. He currently serves as the representative for the Obio/Akpor Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives.

On 21 May 2026, Chinda was announced as the Rivers State governorship candidate for the APC following the withdrawal of Siminalayi Fubara, the current governor of Rivers State, from the primaries. This event garnered significant attention, particularly due to the well-publicized political conflict between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is also the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

In a recent statement, the governor remarked that his choice was a reflection of wisdom rather than weakness. He quoted, “As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace. Some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose.”

In his absence, Kingsley Chinda was declared the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, receiving 268,497 votes without opposition.
