Bunmi Nelson Opens Up on Failed Marriage, Industry Challenges

Nollywood actress Bunmi Nelson is opening up about some of the most difficult chapters of her life, including the breakdown of her marriage, childhood experiences and challenges she encountered while building her career in the Nigerian film industry.
The actress, who is gradually carving a niche for herself as a relationship expert through her podcast, “Tell It To Bunmi” (TITB), has continued to attract attention with her candid conversations and personal revelations.
In a recent footage, an extract from a podcast released on actress Biola Adebayo’s YouTube channel (TALKTOB), Nelson spoke emotionally about her failed marriage, revealing some of the circumstances that contributed to its collapse. She also recounted a disturbing period in which she and her former husband allegedly stabbed each other during their troubled relationship.
Taking viewers through a painful chapter of her life, the actress revealed how she lived in a less-developed part of Ikorodu with her daughter, where she opened up about how colleagues, including Anita Joseph, Obi Okafor and others, supported her and her child during what she described as one of the darkest periods of her life.
With tears in her eyes, Nelson also reflected on her childhood and the impact of her parents’ separation. According to her, her parents separated when she was still a baby and were absent from her life for several years before eventually returning.
The actress further spoke about the challenges female actors allegedly face in the entertainment industry, particularly claims that sexual relationships have sometimes been used as a condition for securing movie roles or opportunities.
She alleged that some movie directors demanded sexual relationships from aspiring actresses, suggesting that those who refused to date them were sometimes pressured to become sexually involved with them.
“How many people do you want to go to bed with?” she asked rhetorically while recounting her experiences and observations within the industry.
Nelson also revealed that she once missed an opportunity to work with popular filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele because she underestimated her influence and capabilities at the time. Looking back, she said Akindele has since achieved remarkable success.
The actress used the experience to caution people against underestimating others because of their present circumstances.
“Do not look down on anyone except you are admiring their shoes,” she said, stressing the importance of humility and respect for people regardless of their current status.
Beyond her career and personal struggles, Nelson advised people to be less concerned about being selective over where they live or what they eat, encouraging them to focus on survival, growth and making the most of their circumstances.
Her revelations have continued to generate conversational sparks among fans and followers, particularly on relationships, resilience and the challenges of navigating the entertainment industry.
In recognition of her growing influence and contribution to Nollywood, Creekvibes Awards has pencilled Bunmi Nelson down for the “Nollywood Spark of the Year 2026” category in the Movie and Entertainment segment of the prestigious awards.
The nomination comes as the actress continues to attract attention not only for her performances on screen but also for her candid conversations and willingness to share personal experiences through her relationship-focused platform, “Tell It To Bunmi” (TITB).
