Bunmi Nelson Clarifies Remarks About Funke Akindele
Nollywood actress Bunmi Nelson has addressed her controversial remarks about popular filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele, following reactions from fans and industry observers.
The controversy followed a recent podcast appearance hosted by Dr. Biola Adebayo, where an excerpt featuring Bunmi Nelson resurfaced on social media. In the footage, Nelson appeared to question or understate Funke Akindele’s standing and achievements in the Nigerian movie industry.
Speaking during a recent hangout at her Neighborhood, Bunmi said her comments were made from a place of admiration and reflection rather than bitterness.
Bunmi explained that her remarks were not intended to diminish Funke Akindele’s achievements or disrespect her position in the industry.
“My words came from a place of admiration and reflection. I spoke from a place of growth and healing, not bitterness. I never meant to disrespect Lafunky under any circumstances,” she explained.
The actress further noted that circumstances surrounding the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, affected plans to celebrate Funke Akindele’s birthday.
“I genuinely hope we can put this behind us,” she concluded.
