Owei, Agbaka And The Forbidden Fruit

Throughout the night, Okiopo’s endeavors were in vain, leading him to leave in a fit of anger, while Lady, engaged in her daily tasks, sang a native song that mocked him. Owei, returning from an early morning inspection of his fishing nets and traps, encountered a visibly frustrated Okiopo exiting his father’s compound.

After exchanging greetings, Owei noticed Lady’s peculiar behaviour nearby and approached her to inquire about the situation. However, Lady swiftly retreated into her room, prompting Owei to follow her.
Owei asked, “What was my Uncle doing here?”

In response, Lady dramatically cast off her wrapper, revealing her nak*dness to him, and replied,
“He came for this.” Owei, taken aback, pressed further,
“Then what happened?” Lady retorted, “Nothing! So naa only old, old men good for me?”
Owei, attempting to divert his gaze, turned towards the door, but as he took a step, Lady mirrored his movement, pushing him toward the bed. With a soft voice, she implored,
“I need you now,” she hastily secured the door. Owei, caught in indecision, he could only admire Lady’s alluring figure from behind. She then questioned him, “Wetin happen?” with her hands resting on her chest.
Succumbing to temptation, they engaged in the intimat* rituals that Lady and Owei’s father, Agbaka, had once performed. Their excitement enveloped them until, around 9 a.m., Owei’s mother, Tariere, began knocking at the door, greeting, “Lady Seridor,” in the local dialect, followed by a series of knocks.
She inquired, “Lady wari emi a?” meaning, “Is Lady at home?”

In a flurry, Owei hastily donned his clothes and concealed himself behind the door, clutching them in a manner that awkwardly shielded his lower abdomen. Meanwhile, a satisfied Lady rose unsteadily, retrieved her wrapper, and used it to wipe her face before responding, “Seridor,” to Tariere’s greeting.
