Ugorji Victoria: I want to pair with Mercy Johnson, Uju Okoli, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham

Nollywood actress, Ugorji Victoria Chinezendu an extraction of Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, South-Eastern Nigeria, maternally from Amaifeke, paternally from Ihinoma both in Orlu LGA, though born, bred and buttered in Lagos State, her first trip outside her state of birth was when she got admitted into the University and needed to step into the big stage of becoming an undergraduate.

The graduate of History and Diplomatic Studies from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State made her professional stage debut at age eight in her church theater group where she acted as a benevolent fairy goddaughter.

The upcoming movie star was absent from scenes for a while and came back in 2011 and has featured in over 15 movies.

Over a decade on, she stars in a Nollywood film, titled ‘Detective’ her skills of interpreting her scripts like a ‘Thug’ have put her into a beam of the limelight.

She became a staunch member of Gemstone production while the production outfit was still in its formative stage, she is part of the crew that rolled out the first movie produced by the movie production house with Sammiezings sitting atop as a producer of the educative movie awaiting DStv’s approval.

The yet-to-be-assigned corper is on the waiting list to undergo her mandatory youth service; she runs an online shopping outfit, she also shuttles within and outside Lagos for auditions and also acts at different locations.

The lead character in ‘Best friends in Marriage’ has featured in movies like: Dreamers highway, The Sponge, The Therapist, The Chef, Confused Prince, Sacred Gift, Protect My Money, The Haunted, Value of The Rosary, Cry of an Innocent Twin, Best friends in Marriage, etc.

She is from a family of seven, and the last child in a sibling of five she threw her parents under the bus when she revealed that, she wasn’t allowed to have friends as a growing child and it affected her social life at some points.

As an enthusiastic fresher in the higher institute of learning she opted for freshers’ night which was her first night out and ever since then she has never attended such an event nor set her feet in a night club till date, according to her she was scared and the experience was never to be repeated.

Ugorji entertained few questions from Creekvibes OLUWADAMILARE DANIELS.

Excerpts;

How was growing up like as the fifth and the last child?

It was boring, I was ‘ omo get inside kind of a child.’ I was the last but not the least of five children, my immediate elder sister is five-year older than I am.

Where are you guys; in an estate or secluded area?

It wasn’t an estate but I never had friends while growing up.

Did that affect your social life?

To some extent, but when I got admission I was like ‘finally I am going to the university,’ I was left off the hock.

When did you have your first boyfriend?

2019

How old were you then?

I was 22.

At what age is ideal for a young lady to start the dating game?

For me, I had my first relationship at the age of 22, because I thought it was ripe for me to do that, I was optimistic I was going to marry him. I never carved in the idea of my female course mates who thought that you must have had series of man friends, and must have grown through love stages before pitching your tent with your heartthrob.

Are you carved now?

Yeah, the bible made us understand that for everything there is a season.

Will you advise a secondary school girl to start a relationship?

That will be absurd; the tertiary institution will be a better atmosphere to experience relationships though not in all cases, many at times the male counterpart might have had a wider scope about life and knows the kind of woman he wants to settle with; often relationships that started in the universities ended up in marriages.

When Gemstone production took its entire team to the Beach, what was it all about?

It was Gemstone Tour 01, it was our first tour as an organization, we all had a chance of inviting a friend or a family member.

Will you want to be in any Tv reality show?

Yes, I will want to be in Big Brother Naija.

Are your parents in support of your acting career?

They were not because of the news making rounds concerning actresses, but I said I am going into the industry to make a difference; I will be a star without messing around with producers or movie directors.

For those that have been harassed what is your advice for them?

I attended an audition, and I heard a lady saying; ‘I will give the producer whatever he wants so long he will give me a slot to showcase my talents.’ Sometimes the producers and directors are not to be blamed, most times I blame the up comers who are too anxious to rise to stardom.

Although, the producers and directors use their status to lure young actresses with words like: ‘I can make you a star overnight just pass nights with me.”

In one of my locations in Asaba a producer had once said to me that, if I want to be a star its either my money or my body, furthermore he said, that is the only way I can make it, he started mentioning names of actresses who had made names by sleeping their ways to limelights.

I told him to shelve it; I am optimistic I will be the star that God has ordained  me to be without lodging and messing around.

Who is your favourite music artist?

Westlife.

By His grace, I shouldn’t exceed 25.

Your advise for young ladies aspiring for acting greatness?

Put God first before your goal; don’t allow the material things to rule your world; don’t think sugar daddy will step you into luxury, with God all things are possible.
