Chibuike Nancy: I jealous people in healthy relationship…I would have been dead @ 15
Beautiful and classically built Nollywood fast-rising actress, Chibuike Nancy, an indigene of Abia State, Arochukwu to be precise, grew up in the beautiful Garden City of Port Harcourt, while growing-up she learned and understood a little bit of the Ekwere language. She had her primary and secondary school education in Garden City and moved back to Owerri.
Queen Nancy, as she is fondly called will captivate viewers’ attention anytime; she has done it on several occasions, this explains why she is among the most sort after actresses in the movie-making industry.
The thespian graduated from the University of Owerri, where she studied Mass Communication and came out with flying colours.
Creekvibes Nollywood Spark of the Year 2023, Queen Nancy worked briefly as a security guard before stepping into her comfy movie-making zone.
The Genesis Fast Food Restaurant, International Airport outlet in Port Harcourt, had benefited from the radiating beauty of The Girl Next Door star while she was discharging her duties earnestly as a cashier due to her irreversible knowledge of statistics before she decided to go into beauty pageant.
The soft-spoken social media influencer took a few questions from Creekvibes OLUWADAMILARE DANIELS. Excerpts;
How were your pageantry days; did you win crowns?
Yeah, I won one in 2019, and I reigned for a year before I moved down to Lagos, where I also contested and won the contest organised by a cosmetic brand.
The one you won in 2019, what is the name?
I would not want to mention the name due to the ill-treatment given to me.
Don’t you think you can use this medium to get your entitlement if not given?
The man in charge then was never seen as a man willing to lead living beauties to achieve their big dreams; I think he was doing it for his selfish benefit; he was not out to make naive girls get to bigger audiences. Damsels came contesting with the hope of getting some tangible leverages; even when you win the pageant, you will end up not getting your entitlement has a reigning queen, you can not even use your platform to achieve anything because nobody know you, nor the pageant platform.
It was only one man selfish idea without a goal.
Why did you not join one or two modelling outfits?
Acting has always been my calling; modelling was just like a push for me because the movie industry is broad, so there are so many things I can do as an entertainer, so modelling was just part of it.
I have always been confident, so modeling was just platform to showcase my imbue talents. Although I still do modelling, but not on the runway anymore; I do it for products.
You are also a good dancer, did you learn it from anybody?
No, (laughs) it is just something I like do.
Did you take after your mum or grandmum in the dancing arena?
No, not at all funny enough I do not even know how to dance; once I like the music, I flow with the vibes dancing has never been part of me.
Have you had any embarrassing moments in the cause of discharging your duties as an actress?
Of course, it happens all the time, not once, not twice.
Can you share some of them with us?
There was one time while I was on the set, I went blank, I could not deliver my lines, and throughout that day, I could not perform; something happened to me that day I think it was a kind of emotional trauma. It was embarrassing, the director kept cutting scenes for me, and I could not pick my lines correctly.
So after that, what did you do to checkmate such scenario?
I know for sure that everyone has emotions, and you never can tell when your emotion will betray you. Nonetheless, I have always tried my best to put my feet on the ground during my working periods, if I have idea of anything coming that will affect my emotions, I will shelve it, it could be an nauseating call. I bet you I’ll not pick it.
Where did you serve as a corper?
I haven’t served yet, a lot happened but, hopefully, I will do my NYSC this year.
Can you share another embarrassing moment?
(General laughter), Another one? I think this was during my modelling days;, I was billed for the runway, immediately I steped out of the back stage, just before walking down the runway, my zip got widened, so the audience only saw my face, I quickly reversed back to fix it up, what if I was in the middle of the runway and the zip disappointed me (gentle laughter) I just imagined how the crowd would have roared with laughter in this social media era, social media never forget; it will trend, I will always be watching the clip. (laughs) So I was embarrassed by myself alone.
It will only make you trend and get famous by the day. (laughs)
I mean this is my dress opening up some part of my body to the World; it would have been a damage on my part.
As a model what are the foods you should not eat?
As a model, you should eat healthily and avoid fatty foods, because you will want to face the crowd with a flat tummy and a well-cupped-up body; no model wants to come out with a pot belly, although some models are focused on some other parts of modelling because of their body types.
Anything that will endanger your system, I think you should just avoid it.
Aside from modelling, what else do you think you can do better?
I have always loved to cook, even at home, I will say cooking is fun for me, as a growing-up girl my mum owns a restaurant, so cooking was like a business for us then.
My cooking videos are sometimes intimidating to my WhatsApp group members, I think I will want to own a restaurant as a business, apart from my acting career, and I know I will do it excellently well.
Will you want it out of the country?
No o, I will start first from my country.
Have you had any close-to-death experiences?
Yeah, when I was 15, in the boarding school, I was very ill and lost all my blood, my mum was contacted to come and pick me up fortunately, she came in handy and took me home from there to the hospitall, according to doctor’s report if my mum had not taken me to the clinic when she did, probably I would have been long gone. Do you know? I am always afraid of medication.
Are you also scared of injections?
Funny enough, injection was perfect for me, but whenever I am sick I will never open my mouth to say ‘I am sick’ except it has become obvious. When I was ill in the boarding school, I did not tell anyone about my it, it got to the point of me missing classes, and could not attend the assembly, so mum came to pick me straight home, even at home I wasn’t getting any better with the Typhoid treatment.
When I eventually got to the hospital, it was difficult to get my blood sample for the Lab scientist to do a fast check, it was that bad the little they could get was almost blackish, it was a close shave, but God must be praised, I am here bouncing and kicking.
Can we have some relationship tips?
Relationship tips? This topic is broad hmmm, to start with, I am not even in a relationship, how will I be in a better position to give tips?
Let me say, everybody deserved to be loved, some people are lucky to find love while others are not, if you are one of those lucky ones that truly find someone to love you amid all the turbulence going on right now; including the breakups here and there, then you should count yourself lucky, and please love that one man that loves you, please reciprocate the love of that woman. It is really rare to find that true love.
Sometimes, I am jealous of people who are in a healthy relationship, and I also hope I find that person that will love me of course, I will reciprocate too.
What qualities do you sort after in a man, that you think, you can call your own?
Hmm, a man I can call my own? I feel like, I am very attractive to emotionally available people, by my zodiac sign I am Cancer, and we are very emotional, so first and foremost he must be emotionally available for me, and of course, someone who is goal-driven like I am, what he does must be worthwhile be it business or career.
What about his physical appearance?
For the looks, I like very handsome men, skin is not a barrier, but I prefer dark skin; preferably tall; lastly you need to have money (general laughter) if I am out there making money; my partner too should have money, (laughs).
Does it mean your career is making it difficult for you to find a suitor?
Frankly speaking, hmmm I am not ready yet, obviously, men are there, the ones with good intentions and those with ulterior motives, I know my career is demanding, and I know that relationship will also require a lot from me, but on my scale of preference right now, my career tops my priorities, I won’t be 100% committed, you know building a working relationship requires a lot of physical and emotional presence.
How many countries have you gone into?
I have not gone far, I have been to Ghana, but hopefully, I will be visiting two countries in Europe before the end of this year.
When you went to Ghana, did you display your dexterity as an actress?
No o, it was just a holiday visit.
How many movies can we say you have featured in?
I have done quite above 30.
Are you also planning to be a producer?
Yeah, hopefully, I will produce before the end of this year.
