By OLUWADAMILARE DANIELS
The alleged bul!ying of a female student at Lead British International School, Abuja, by her classmates on social media has sparked a significant amount of outrage. A video was posted by a user identified as @mooyeeeeeee, who was seeking justice for the victim.
In another post another X user @Hannatu_ who claimed to be the cousin of the victim said her name is Namtira Daniel Bwal, daughter of a prominent Nigerian lawyer, Daniel Bwala.
She wrote: “Jesus!!!! Her name is not Maryam, this is my cousin and her name is Namtira as said in the video.”
The intention behind the post was to raise awareness about societal bul!ying and ensure justice for the victim.
One of the videos shows Namtira being repeatedly slapped by another female student while asking, “Who broke my heart?”. In another video, she was seen sitting next to a male classmate who claims to have ruined her relationship.
In response to the outcry on social media, the school management, led by Abraham Ogunkambi, the Head of the Abuja School, has released a statement condemning the incident and promising proactive measures to address bul!ying. Ogunkambi has confirmed that the school has reached out to Namtira’s parents to provide necessary support and counseling services to help them cope with the emotional and psychological impact of the incident.
Furthermore, the school plans to implement disciplinary measures and offer counseling services to the perpetrators in order to address their behavior. A panel has been formed to investigate the incident and other allegations of bul!ying within the school, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students.
