Wike: Security Agencies Have Identified Senator Sponsoring Protest

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, revealed that security agencies in the territory have identified a senator as one of the sponsors of the anti-government protest.
Wike made this announcement following an emergency FCT Security Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday night, August 1. It was emphasized that the government will continue to provide updates to the media as they monitor the protests against bad governance and hunger in the country.
The government upholds the principles of democracy and the rule of law, ensuring that protests are conducted within legal boundaries. The recent court order restricting protests to the National Stadium was mentioned, highlighting the need to prevent potential violence and property damage in the FCT. The government is committed to protecting lives and property, urging protesters to adhere to the court’s directives and conduct their demonstrations peacefully at the MKO Abiola stadium.
Recent intelligence indicates that a senator has engaged certain security agencies to facilitate the provision of food for the protesters. This act constitutes sponsorship, as it involves a senator supplying sustenance to demonstrators. In due course, the security agencies are expected to summon the senator to inquire about the motivations behind such support, particularly in relation to actions perceived as opposing the current government, he stated.
