Pastor Adeboye kicks against contemporary trends, says RCCG altar not for pastors with braids, heavy makeup

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has criticized clergymen who wear braided hairstyles and clergywomen who adorn themselves with false eyelashes and excessive makeup. During a recent address at his church’s annual convention,
Adeboye declared that such practices among church workers will no longer be accepted. He remarked, “In Yorubaland, the only men permitted to braid their hair are the priests of Sango, the deity of thunder. Some may argue that we must adapt to contemporary trends, but this is not the path of our mission. Even after my departure, this will remain unchanged.
Take heed of my words: should we encounter any pastors, especially female pastors, who present themselves as if they belong to Nollywood, we will remove them from the altar. You may disagree, but as my children, you cannot harm me. The reason men do not wear makeup, true men, is due to a sense of superiority; we stand before God and affirm, ‘You created us well, without error.’” The 82-year-old pastor continued, stating,
“When one begins to apply false nails, I question the intention behind it. If God had intended for you to be a bird, He would have equipped you with false nails and eyelashes.” He urged those who enjoy unconventional appearances to reconsider and adopt a more modest demeanor. “You may quote me: inform anyone who inquires about your significant transformation that ‘Daddy GO said so,'” he emphasized.
