Boss Derek Braye is a talented music artist ready to take the music centre stage by storm with his scintillating yet alluring and addictive songs. A native of Bayelsa State, specifically from Sagbama Local Government, he pursued his high school education at Solon Academy in Ikotun.

His journey into music began when his father, who currently resides in Bayelsa, recognised his musical talent. A lover of various musical genres, his father, Braye Boss bestowed on him the stage name “Dereek”. As a young musician during his formative years, this encouragement significantly fueled his passion for music, leading him to embark on his artistic career at a remarkably young age. His debut EP at age Twelve, titled “Soul Of A King,” stands as a testament to his early dedication.

His father expressed immense pride upon learning of Dereek’s first EP, stating, “Son, I am so proud of you.” Released on December 7th, a date of personal significance, one of the tracks, “SAPA,” has garnered over 500 streams on Audiomack, while other songs like “NEW” are also attracting considerable attention.

Exceptionally, “Vitamin M” under the auspices of Clockwise Music Label is a masterpiece with infectious beats coupled with a synthesized lyrics, making it an irresistible and addictive sound.

The reputable Clockwise Music Label is committed to supporting Dereek, who has found a nurturing environment within this record label. He is set to showcase his talents in collaborations with notable artists such as Rude Boy from the former PSquare duo, Duncan Mighty, known as Port Harcourt’s First Son, and the Nigerian Afropop sensation Ugochi Lydia Onuoha, widely recognised as Guchi.

In addition to his burgeoning music career, he is a qualified web developer and programmer, having acquired his skills through an online programming platform.

When CREEKVIBES inquired about his parents’ stance on his chosen profession, his response was revealing. He recounted how, despite his young age and their protective nature, his passion for music often led him to sneak out for performances. He vividly remembered one instance when he left home around midnight to participate in a show, earning a substantial amount of money. However, the fear of returning home without prior approval left him anxious as dawn approached.

Whoa! Some individuals who recognised him at the event were aware that he had discreetly left home to attend the show, and they took it upon themselves to inform his parents that their son performed exceptionally well at a show and received a substantial amount of money. Upon his return, he anticipated a reprimand, but instead, he was met with warm embraces filled with joy, which alleviated his anxious nerves. “In my musical journey, my parents have consistently supported my musical talents.” He remarked.

When asked about the sacrifices he has made to reach this point, the 3.7-foot-tall music artist recounted instances where he attended various shows with his last remaining funds, often without any means to return home. On one occasion, while waiting in line for entry, he encountered AY, a guest at the event, who recognised his artistic fecundity allowed him to enter despite his lack of transportation and uncertainty about mounting the stage, he eventually performed and received money from different individual who appreciated his talent. He holds Richard Ayodeji Makun, otherwise known as AY, in high regard for this act of kindness.

Lastly CREEKVIBES asked him to share one of the terrible experiences he has received while on stage, he said; “I would like to express that during the event titled ‘Davido Live in Asaba,’ I received an invitation at the behest of the Governor. I was the artist who performed prior to Davido’s entrance on stage. Under normal circumstances, I would have exited through the backstage area to allow Davido to take the stage.

I was unceremoniously directed by the security personnel to leave the stage simply because Davido was approaching, that act left me humiliated, I had no choice but to leap off the podium.”
