Former IBF lightweight champion Robert Easter Jr is currently undergoing surgery after being shot three times by robbers who took his jewellery and phone in a robbery attack.

Former boxing world champion Robert Easter Jr has reportedly been shot three times during an attempted robbery before being rushed to hospital.

The 31-year-old former IBF lightweight champion is currently undergoing surgery at a Cincinnati hospital following the incident which occurred in his home town of Toledo, Ohio in the United States.

He was allegedly shot three times after fending off a group of men who demanded he give them his money and possessions.

The boxing star is expected to recover fully despite facing multiple gunshot wounds, according to his father and co-trainer Robert Sr.

According to WTOL 11, Easter Jr was confronted and told “give me those,” referring to his jewellery, before being robbed of his two gold chains, three diamond rings and mobile phone.

He was then shot as he attempted to flee the scene.

The boxer himself has since posted an update about his condition on Twitter, writing: “I’m in so much pain.”
