Celebrating the Glorious Tenure of Salami And Adare’s Exco of SLOOGA

Mrs Oyeyemi JimiSalami

The 2022 annual general meeting of Saint Louis Owo Old Girls Association (SLOOGA) marked the end of Mrs Oyeyemi Jimi – Salami glorious tenure as President and Mrs Margaret Adare, one of the founding members who played key roles in the growth and development of the association..

Recalling her five-year reign as a founding member and President of the Association, Mrs Salami said it was an interesting journey; a period of gathering old students across the globe. She referred to the period as a colossal breakthrough for the Association.

According to her: “We were given the mandate to run the affairs of the Association for a second term on the 25th of January 2020. This came after we have spent a term of two years as elected Officers and WhatsApp group Admin, respectively.”

Narrating the history of the Association, Mrs Salami said it started in 1988 when Mrs F Anjorin, the then Principal of the school, who hosted some of the old students, encouraged them to form an association.

Thus, Mrs. Margaret Omolara Adare (nee Ayeni) of the 1969 set, was elected as the National President.

There was a disconnect after the celebrations of the school’s Silver Jubilee, when members’ participation became irregular, followed by inactivities for years.

However, in preparations for the Golden Jubilee of the school in 2012, Mrs B A Anya made efforts to revive the Association, by contacting some old students. This time around the Association came back to life.

Mrs Adare was requested to continue with the leadership of the Association. Other officers were elected, with Mrs Adora Alabi as the Secretary.

The Association wants to set standards amongst alumni in secondary schools in Nigeria. in uplifting the lives of young women, who will stand very tall in whatever endeavours they are involved in, both as Mothers and Nation Builders.

As the saying goes, tomorrow’s generation must be greater than that of today; and that’s the path and footprint the Association is toeing.

Since its founding, SLOOGA has contributed immensely to the upliftment of the school, which is an all-female institution of very young girls, some of Nigeria’s finest both in brain and beauty.

The Association has state chapters in Nigeria, and in Africa, the United States of America, Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia.
