DSS arrests #EndBadGovernance Protester In Abuja Nigeria

Micheal Lenin
Agents from the Department of State Services have apprehended Micheal Lenin, a prominent figure in the ongoing Endbadgovernance protests within the Federal Capital Territory. Lenin was taken into custody by the DSS at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday at his home located in the Apo area of the FCT.
In a conversation with our correspondent, Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, reported that the DSS conducted a raid on Lenin’s residence. He further alleged that Lenin was subjected to assault during the arrest. Adenola stated, “Lenin has been detained by the DSS. He was apprehended during a raid on his home around 2 a.m. He was arrested and mistreated in front of his family. We are calling for his immediate and unconditional release.”
According to The Punch online, as of the time of filling this report, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, was unavailable for comment and had not responded to a message sent to him. Lenin, who serves as the National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, was among the organizers who expressed their discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s address on Sunday during a press briefing. He remarked that the President’s speech indicated a disconnect from the realities faced by the nation.
He stated, “We wish to convey our sorrow and profound disappointment regarding President Tinubu’s recent broadcast, which marks his first address to the nation concerning the #EndBadGovernance protests, occurring over three weeks after Nigerians began mobilizing for demonstrations, following numerous fatalities among protesters and assaults on journalists during the initial days of the protests. Many had hoped that the President would address the nation during the mobilization and escalation of the protests, but it became evident that he would only justify state violence against protesters and journalists while disregarding their demands whenever he chose to speak.”
Lenin, on the other hand, emphasized that the protest will persist significantly on Monday, urging the populace to participate in large numbers.
He emphasized, “Hence, we urge the Nigerian populace to join in substantial numbers to sustain these demonstrations on Monday until our requests are addressed. The strategy of utilizing violence and misinformation has proven ineffective.
“The use of violence and suppression is merely an endeavor to stifle and manipulate us, while the dissemination of false information cannot deceive or mislead us.”.
