In the coming days, arrangements will be made for a dignified burial for their mother, along with other siblings; Senior Manager Nkiru Ukpong, Educator Sally, Barrister Amaka, and Distinguished Anolue.

The biography of Ezinne Lady Mary Nkechi Mbaso KSQ (Di Bu Ndo), their mother, follows below.

Early Life
Lady Mary Nkechi Mbaso was born on May 25, 1939, to Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Nwaego Okoye of Umuezeubosi, Eziora Ozubulu.
May as fondly called was the youngest of eight surviving children in a close-knit and devout family. Her upbringing in a humble and loving household instilled values of hard work, compassion, and dedication that would define her life’s journey. humble, dynamic, versatile and outspoken role model to numerous people males, females as well as children.

Education
May began her educational pursuit at Eziora central school and despite being born at a time educating women was seen as a waste, went on to Bishop Shanahan Teachers’ College, where she earned her qualification as a grade Two teacher (TC II).
She continued her academic endeavors at Anambra State University, earning an Associate Certificate in Education (ACE). Undeterred in her quest for knowledge, she went on achieved a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Her academic milestones reflected her commitment to personal growth and service to society. Most impressive about her educational strides is that a lot of her certificates were acquired while juggling family and career responsibilities.

She served effectively, efficiently, effortlessly and expertly as a CWO leader, from secretary to president for over (4) four decades.

Married Life
Lady May married Hon. Barr. Chief Sir Linus Anwasia Mbaso, forming a union marked by respect and partnership. Together, they went on to build a family anchored in faith and mutual respect and we are blessed with six surviving children.
Lady May devoted herself to nurturing her family, creating a home filled with love and enduring values. The strength, tenacity and resilience she exhibited in her home became a guiding light for all those who were face one challenge or another in their individual homes.

Professional Career
Mary Nkechi Mbaso was a prolific educator whose teaching career spanned decades. She made an indelible mark in various institutions, including:

  • Egbema Community School
  • Eziora Central School
  • St. Matthew’s Primary School
  • St. Kevin’s Primary School
  • Amakwa Central School
    It was at Amakwa central that her career which culminated into her role as Headmistress Special, came to an end and she retired with distinction.
    Though retired but not tired, she went on to become the head mistress of St. Joseph Nursery/Primary School, a scholl she founded alongside other CWO leaders, laying a strong foundation for generations of students. She also taught English at Seat of Wisdom Secondary School, where her passion for education continued to flourish until her final retirement when the voice of reason demanded she drop the pen and rest.

    Lady May’s legacy extended beyond the classroom. She was A co-founder of a thriving vocational institute known as social center in her community. Social center was later transformed to a full government approved secondary school known till date as Seat of Wisdom Secondary School.
    She also taught them English in Seat of wisdom comprehensive secondary school, a school established by CWO Egbema branch
  • A Local Government President of the National Council of Women, advocating for women’s empowerment.
  • A pioneer member of the “Better Life for Rural Women” initiative, championing sustainable development.
  • The architect of a partnership with a Canadian-based company for rearing Giant African Snails, creating opportunities for economic growth and innovation.
    Her contributions impacted countless lives, both individually and collectively, earning her respect and admiration of all who were opportune to cross path with her.

Twilight Years
In her later years, Lady May enjoyed the fruits of her labor, often visiting her children both within Nigeria and abroad. She embraced her role as a grandmother passionately and was happy and eager to pass on her immense virtues and wisdom to her grandchildren, ensuring that her legacy lived on through them.

Glorious Exit
Being a woman of deep faith, Lady May was never afraid of death rather she saw death as her Visa into the glorious realm.
She faced the inevitability of death with courage and grace. Sensing her time was up, she sent for her daughter to be with her, she received the last sacraments, and surrounded by loved ones, she peacefully transitioned onto glory. Her departure was a serene farewell, marking the end of a life well-lived.

Legacy
Mrs. Mary Nkechi Mbaso will be remembered as a devoted wife, a unparalleled mother, a dynamic grandmother, a prolific teacher, an advocate of peace, a community leader, and a beacon of inspiration. Her life’s work continues to touch lives and serve as a testament to the power of Faith, education, faith, service and the audacity of hope.
